A Bit About Me
I'm Joseph Clarke, student at Hautlieu School, host of the radio show Movie Nerds, and creator the website you are currently reading, The Pop Culture Club. Movies and pop culture have been a passion of mine since a very young age. I have always loved consuming, rating, reviewing, and debating about various mediums of pop culture, and on this website I aim to inform people about what I've been watching, whilst also giving thought-provoking analysis. I will also be writing some more in-depth articles looking at films through a feminist lens, assessing their views on race, sexuality, and gender., Also, expect the occasional random articles about whatever subjects are currently interesting me. Why do I love film?
As someone who is intensely interested in understanding the world around me, Films are so alluring, because I believe they are a window into humanity. They are a showcase of life, and all the strange and exciting situations which come as a result of it. Most films are only between an hour to two hours long, and yet in that short amount of time, a good movie is able to leave a lasting impact. The person who first got me into movies was my sister. We would watch movies and then sit and talk about them for hours afterwards, nitpicking and laughing at everything we didn't like, and praising the things we did like. Me and my sister shared love of film was a massive part of our relationship, which got better and better as the years went on. Even if I am alone, I love watching movies. They help me escape from the world around me and distract me by thinking about other things. They help me heal wounds, build confidence, and bond with others. In many ways, I wouldn't be the person I am today if I wasn't obsessed with film, and that is why films are so special to me.
